RESPONSIVE READING: Psalm 103 : 1-5; Psalm 23 : 6

1.     Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2.     Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3.     Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4.     Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5.     Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6.     Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

LESSON SERMON

The Bible

1.     Psalm 100 : 1-4

1     Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

2     Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3     Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4     Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

2.     Psalm 33 : 12

12     Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

3.     Exodus 14 : 10 (the children of Israel lifted), 13-15 (to 1st ,), 16 (lift), 23 (to 2nd ,), 26 (to 3rd ,), 31

10     …the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.

13     And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to-day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to-day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

14     The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

15     And the LORD said unto Moses,

16     …lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

23     And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea,

26     And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians,

31     And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

4.     Exodus 15 : 1 (to 1st ,), 2 (to 2nd ,), 13

1     Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD,

2     The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God,

13     Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

5.     Deuteronomy 28 : 2-6

2     And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

3     Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4     Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5     Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6     Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

6.     Deuteronomy 26 : 11

11     And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.

7.     Proverbs 10 : 22

22     The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

8.     Colossians 3 : 16, 17

16     Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17     And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

9.     I Peter 2 : 25

25     For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

10.     Hebrews 13 : 20 (to 1st ,), 21

20     Now the God of peace,

21     Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well- pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Science and Health

1.     494 : 10-19

Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.

The miracle of grace is no miracle to Love. Jesus demonstrated the inability of corporeality, as well as the infinite ability of Spirit, thus helping erring human sense to flee from its own convictions and seek safety in divine Science.

2.     200 : 4-7

Moses advanced a nation to the worship of God in Spirit instead of matter, and illustrated the grand human capacities of being bestowed by immortal Mind.

3.     106 : 7-11

God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love.

4.     227 : 21-29

Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: "Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!" Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the "glorious liberty of the children of God," and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.

5.     4 : 3-16

What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. To keep the commandments of our Master and follow his example, is our proper debt to him and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude for all that he has done. Outward worship is not of itself sufficient to express loyal and heartfelt gratitude, since he has said: "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer. Its motives are made manifest in the blessings they bring,— blessings which, even if not acknowledged in audible words, attest our worthiness to be partakers of Love.

6.     183 : 21-24

Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty. Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength.

7.     412 : 13-15

The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death.

8.     140 : 8-12

We shall obey and adore in proportion as we apprehend the divine nature and love Him understandingly, warring no more over the corporeality, but rejoicing in the affluence of our God.

9.     3 : 22-26 (to 2nd .)

Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.

10.     264 : 24-27

Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love.

11.     577 : 32-18

In the following Psalm one word shows, though faintly, the light which Christian Science throws on the Scriptures by substituting for the corporeal sense, the incorporeal or spiritual sense of Deity: —

PSALM XXIII

[DIVINE LOVE] is my shepherd; I shall not want.

[LOVE] maketh me to lie down in green pastures: [LOVE] leadeth me beside the still waters.

[LOVE] restoreth my soul [spiritual sense]: [Love] leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for [LOVE] is with me; [LOVE's] rod and [LOVE'S] staff they comfort me.

[LOVE] prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: [LOVE] anointeth my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house [the consciousness] of [LOVE] for ever.

12.     442 : 26-29

Jesus said, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." This truth is Christian Science.

Love is the liberator.
